Message on the influence of earthquake on March 11

Dear all researchers,

The organizing, program, and steering committee members of MNC2011 express our heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by the earthquake which occurred on March 11 in the northeast area of Japan. We are very shocked and saddened by the devastation and the damage to the nuclear power plant in Fukushima will need a long time to be brought under control. But we believe that we will recover soon from this; one of the most serious crises that Japan has ever faced.

Concerning the organization of MNC2011, we would like to emphasize that Kyoto is completely safe as it has not been affected in any way. Facilities, transportation, and tourism-related services in Kyoto are all operating as usual. Therefore, we would like to strongly encourage you to join MNC2011 as or more actively than previous years.

You can access the latest information (transportation information, radiation monitor map, events etc) about visiting Japan after the earthquake at the following websites:

We believe that you will confirm that Kyoto is a really safe and fascinating
place to visit and we are really looking forward to seeing you there this
October.

Sincerely,

MNC 2011 Organizing Committee Chair
Hiroshi Yamaguchi
